Doug has spent the past forty years specializing in solving problems and resolving disputes through negotiation, litigation and trials, mediation or arbitration. Doug’s expertise ranges from construction, banking, antitrust and trade regulation to securities fraud and manufacturing issues. Doug has represented a wide variety of clients in federal and state court in cases involving UCC and other business contract disputes, condemnation, zoning and land use, environmental contamination, property owner association disputes and real estate in several states and jurisdictions. He combines his wide variety of litigation experience with financial and business acumen to find the most cost-effective strategies for resolving clients’ problems and achieving their goals.

CLIENT SUCCESSES

  • Represented a client being sued in federal court for alleged fraud in the sale of an apartment complex, leading to a judicial dismissal of all claims
  • Represented a manufacturer of electro-magnetic relays used in guidance systems for military missiles in a lawsuit challenging the efficacy of the relays
  • Negotiated a settlement with Microsoft for the alleged sale of pirated software, resulting in a $5,000 settlement payment and the business unit remained open
  • Represented a company in a federal court lawsuit alleging breach of contract, negligence, gross negligence and fraud, resulting in dismissal of the lawsuit, with prejudice, and award of all costs
  • Represented a Home Owners’ Association (HOA) in a lawsuit challenging the organization and governance by the HOA, winning at trial and at the Court of Appeals
  • Represented a title insurance company and its insured in $2.3M “hidden lien” asserted against the insured’s property, resulting in mediation for pennies on the dollar
  • Represented a major contractor sued for more than $3.5M by a local hotel for deficiencies in the HVAC system, among other claims
  • Selected as chief arbitrator in a construction dispute regarding the expansion of a large manufacturing building
  • Selected as arbitrator in a matter involving a lease in a major downtown project in Charlotte, NC
  • Mediated hundreds of Superior Court cases as a Certified Mediator
