McGuire, Wood & Bissette, P.A. has an immediate opening for a Land Use, Planning, & Zoning attorney to join its real estate practice group. The ideal candidate will have at least four years of experience in the land use, planning & zoning field, but all qualified candidates with an interest in this area of law are encouraged to apply. A good attitude, excellent communication skills, dedication to client service, and a drive to learn are required.
Applicants must be comfortable working with clients directly, contacting and meeting with public officials, representing clients before government agencies, as well as working with a team of attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants to advise and assist clients and property owners in achieving their goals. This position includes advising clients regarding how potential projects may fit within a community’s long-term plans, advocating for a project’s approval, creative problem solving, the ability to organize and manage multiple files, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with local communities.
Qualifications:
- All candidates should be licensed to practice in North Carolina or eligible to waive into the North Carolina Bar.
- Graduation from an accredited law school.
- Interest or experience in land use, planning & zoning field.
- Detail-oriented and a drive to meet with people.
- Excellent communication skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- A proactive approach to professional work and relationships.
Job Duties:
- Advise developers and/or landowners.
- Build relationships with clients based on trust.
- Represent clients before government boards and agencies.
- Annual billable hour expectation is a minimum of 1,300, with additional hours dedicated to non-billable goals (e.g. community involvement, professional development, and business development).
